First Encounter - An Immersive Virtual Reality Experience

Inspired by the film Arrival, we embarked on an exploration of communication with the unknown. First Encounter is a VR experience where users engage with avatars of extraterrestrial beings, communicating without the constraints of spoken language. In this project, we took a bold step into the uncharted territories of user interaction. By observing how participants interacted with a being from beyond Earth, we aimed to redefine communication—testing not just technology, but human adaptability and creativity. Through this immersive experience, we gathered insights into how users naturally build connections without relying on traditional communication methods. More than 50 users participated in three exhibitions, providing us with valuable data that continues to inform our approach to design.
